Vaping 101 - Basic Facts

Please reach us at shopnaturalpath@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

An electronic cigarette—often called an e-cigarette, vape, or more broadly, a vapor product—is a battery-powered device that uses a heating element (atomizer or coil) to turn a liquid (known as e-liquid) into an aerosol that the user inhales.

E-liquids may contain nicotine, flavorings, and other ingredients, or they may be made without nicotine, depending on the product and user preference. Vapor products come in many styles and designs, allowing for differences in appearance, function, and features.

Note: E-cigarettes and vapor products are intended for use by adults of legal purchasing age. They are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as smoking cessation devices, and no health or therapeutic claims can be made about their use.

Federal law states you must be age 21 or older to purchase vapor products.  You must have a valid, state issued-ID in order to make a purchase of vapor products from our store.

In the United States, manufacturers and retailers are prohibited from marketing e-cigarettes or vapor products as smoking cessation devices unless they have been evaluated and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for that purpose.

Some adults who smoke choose to use vapor products in place of combustible cigarettes, and individual experiences vary. While some people report reducing or discontinuing smoking after switching to vapor products, these outcomes are anecdotal and not guaranteed. Vapor products have not been approved by the FDA for the diagnosis, treatment, cure, or prevention of any disease, including nicotine dependence.

E-liquid—sometimes called vape juice—is the liquid used in vapor products to create an inhalable aerosol. Most e-liquids are made with a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). Nicotine may be included in varying concentrations or omitted entirely, depending on the product and user preference.

Flavorings used in e-liquids are generally food-grade, but their safety for inhalation has not been established. For more details on tobacco product ingredient listings, visit FDA.gov and search for “tobacco ingredient listing.”

No tobacco or nicotine product is considered completely safe. The long-term health effects of vaping are still being studied, and scientific understanding continues to evolve. Some public health organizations outside the United States, such as the Royal College of Physicians in the UK, have stated that vaping may present less risk compared to smoking combustible tobacco. However, these assessments are based on current evidence, which is subject to change as more research becomes available.

For individuals who do not currently use tobacco products, the safest choice is not to start. Vapor products are intended for use only by adults of legal purchasing age, and they are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as smoking cessation devices.

Nicotine is an addictive substance, and using products that contain it can lead to dependence. The most harmful way to consume nicotine is by smoking combustible tobacco, which exposes the user to thousands of harmful chemicals produced by burning tobacco.

Some adults who smoke choose to switch to smoke-free products, including vapor products, in an effort to reduce exposure to these harmful byproducts. However, switching to a non-combustible product does not eliminate the risks associated with nicotine use. Individuals should make informed decisions about if, when, and how they use nicotine, and seek professional guidance if they wish to reduce or stop use.

Nicotine is an addictive substance and is not risk-free. It can have stimulant effects on the body, such as increased heart rate and blood pressure, and may pose particular risks for people with certain medical conditions, including heart disease. Nicotine use during pregnancy can harm fetal development, and health authorities advise against its use by pregnant individuals.

While nicotine itself is not the primary cause of smoking-related cancers or many chronic diseases, it is the addictive component that keeps people using tobacco products, which can expose them to significant health risks—particularly when consumed through combustible cigarettes. Individuals should weigh the risks and consult a healthcare professional before starting, continuing, or changing nicotine use.

That depends on the laws of your state and the rules of a workplace or business. Some businesses may prohibit vaping in their establishment, as is their right. Some states and municipalities prohibit vaping in the same places smoking is banned.  Connecitcut is such a state.

We highly advise NOT visiting a gas station or convenience store to start your transition, but rather, a dedicated specialty store (like us!).  Vape shop staff are not only ex-smokers, but they are experts in their field and can help you navigate the technology, customizing a product to your specific needs.  Having gotten our start as a vape shop, we have over 12 years of experience in matching consumers to products - the most experience of any retailer on the east coast!  Your success will depend on ensuring a good match.

Whew!  That's a doozy of a question, but we are up to the challenge!  In fact, this is such a challenging topic, that we are going to give it its own page!
